Detroit Edison Retrofit
Raytheon Engineers & Constructors projects $10 million savings by using Cyrax on current major retrofit of several Detroit Edison power plants. Better as-built models will allow better design and construction planning. Major savings will come from reducing field change orders and from direct savings in capturing and creating as-builts. Feature story in Microstation Manager magazine, January 2000.

Chevron Refinery PSM 570
Chevron's Richmond, CA refinery uses Cyrax to achieve two-for-the-cost-of-one results. The Cyrax system was used to generate Inspection ISO's of off-plot piping for Process Safety Management per API-570 requirements. At the same time, 3D as-built models were created, with virtually no incremental cost, for use in Operations & Maintenance and for future retrofit design needs.

Rohm & Haas OSHA 1910 Compliance
Rohm & Haas retained The Benham Companies (now W.S. Atkins Benham) to provide cost-effective, timely Inspection ISO's for OSHA 1910 compliance on their Chicago Heights emulsions plant. The plant lacked up-to-date, reliable documentation. Faced with a pressing need to meet OSHA regulations, Rohm & Haas took advantage of Benham's extensive experience in applying Cyrax for fast, economical and accurate results.

Chevron Piping Revamp
The demanding 13-week schedule called for conducting as-builts, design, and installation of an upgrade involving >1,000ft of 6" and 8" piping. Chevron's Project Manager evaluated doing the as-built & design phase with in-house resources or contracting the work to ConneXsys, a local engineering firm that owns a Cyrax system. ConneXsys' winning proposal took advantage of Cyrax to save two weeks off the tight as-built & design portion of the schedule. The project was completed on schedule December 30, 1999, allowing the project's cost to be accrued within the fiscal year, as planned.

Off-shore Oil Platform Upgrade
In order to reduce construction risk and schedule risk for a critical offshore platform upgrade, Chevron used laser scanning to provide accurate as-builts for design verification and construction planning. The $2 million capital project involved a planned 72-hour shut-in of the 20,000 barrel-per-day platform. Laser scanning uncovered several critical design errors as the original upgrade design was based on as-builts done manually. Left undetected these errors would have created significant schedule risk and capital overruns. Scanning also provided better information for removal path and construction planning. Bottom line: the installation went so smoothly that the shut-in time was shaved to 40 hrs and the project came in well under budget. This landmark scanning project was detailed by the Chevron Project manager in an article in the Oil & Gas Journal.
